As most of us are spending all of our time quarantined inside the house, I wanted to share with you my reading list of books I love to help us market through this crisis and think differently. I hope you enjoy these!
Discipline Strategy by Dr Tim Coomer
Tim Coomer is a friend of mine and one of the smartest businesspeople I have ever met. He is a serial entrepreneur and personality researcher with a deep understanding of how personality impacts performance. In this book he shares how real change begins with a decision and he provides a realistic roadmap for change, a guide to making great decisions, and a path to accomplish your goals. This book has caused me to think differently about change and how I approach it.
Radical Relevance by Bill Cates
Bill Cates of Referral Coach International is not only a colleague of mine, but someone I followed for years before we had the chance to meet and began sharing ideas and supporting each other’s businesses. His book truly offers strategies to help cut through the noise and get your marketing messages heard. He offers principles, strategies sand tangible tactics to help create your powerful marketing messages.
The Catalyst: How to Change Anyone’s Mind by Dr Jonah Berger
Jonah Berger is a marketing professor at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and internationally bestselling author of Contagious, Invisible Influence, and now The Catalyst. He’s a world-renowned expert on social influence, word of mouth, and why products, ideas, and behaviors catch on. I am currently listening to his new book on Audible as I walk my nearly exhausted dog 2 to 3 times a day. It is fantastic and shares how marketers can change their customers minds, get new products to catch on, and transform organizational culture and change.
Absolutely Unforgettable by Stephanie Nivinskus
What we may need for our businesses more than ever is the ability to have our brands stand out. Stephanie Nivinskus wrote a best-selling book in 2018 that deserves a read. She describes what makes a brand absolutely unforgettable and why we forget most of the brands we encounter. Absolutely Unforgettable explores what the world’s most memorable brands do differently and guides entrepreneurs through the process of creating a brand that stands out in a noisy world.
Staying Happy Being Productive by Dr Roger Hall
Even during these trying times, what could you accomplish if you were more productive? My friend and former coach, business psychologist Dr. Roger Hall, has worked with successful people for over 25 years. Through his observations, he has discovered a pattern of habits that work as a foundation for their success and happiness. These Big 10 habits relate to the 10 aspects of your life that lead to either success or dysfunction. Staying Happy, Being Productive teaches you to monitor these aspects and gives you practical tools and techniques to make improvements–and the key is addressing one thing at a time.
Talking to Strangers by Malcolm Gladwell
If you like listening to entertaining podcasts, Gladwell’s newest and #1 best-selling book, Talking to Strangers may be right up your alley. The book is a powerful examination of our interactions with people we don’t know. Gladwell contends that because we don’t know how to talk to strangers, we are inviting conflict and misunderstanding in ways that have a profound effect on our lives and our world. The Audible version is incredible! It is not Gladwell reading the book, but you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed – scientists, criminologists, military psychologists. Court transcripts are brought to life with re-enactments. As Gladwell revisits the deceptions of Bernie Madoff, the trial of Amanda Knox, and the suicide of Sylvia Plath, you hear directly from many of the players in these real-life tragedies.
Hopefully you enjoy these reads and listens. Stay safe!
